Big open lawns, palm trees and a long beach on the windward side, with the island of Mokoliʻi sitting just offshore and the Koʻolau mountains rising right behind you. It's one of the most recognizable views on Oʻahu and it never looks the same twice.
- Best light
The park faces the sunrise over Kāneʻohe Bay, so the light comes up soft behind Mokoliʻi. Later in the day the sun drops behind the mountains, which gives gentle, even light without harsh shadows.
- Good to know
It's about 45 minutes from Waikīkī, so we'll plan your timeline around the drive.
The windward side can be breezy. Bring a hair tie and something for veils.
Kualoa Ranch, where the movies were filmed, is a separate private property across the road. This guide is about the public beach park.
- Being a good guest
Kualoa is an important place in Hawaiian history and was once a place of refuge. We stay on the paths, take nothing with us and keep the shoot quiet.
